Rear Subframe bushing removal and installation tool for BMW E30 and Z3 chassis. This special tool is thoughtfully engineered and skillfully machined by Forsvara Engineering.
Here's how Forsvara descibes this tool:
Does NOT include factory bushing shown in picture, the bushing is shown for illustration purposes only. Flats on small tube washer combo MUST be lined up with dimples in subframe otherwise they will interfere.
To remove the factory bushings you will have to fully remove rear subframe. Removal of the bushings without the use of this tool would be extremely difficult as there is no real area to push against the subframe except for the two narrow edges of the subframe exposed thru notches molded into the bushing. Once bushings are removed you can use tool to install OEM M3 bushings, aftermarket Delrin, UHMW, Urethane, even solid Aluminum bushings. Make sure the slot in the side of the new bushings align with the raised dimples in the subframe. See pictures for details/ instructions.
Washers are cut from high strength steel. Bronze oil impregnated sleeve & thrust bearings are installed on both sides of the main cup to aid in an effortless removal/ or installation. They also serve to protect the threaded rod from damage as it slides thru it. Flange nuts are provided to evenly distribute the forces on bronze thrust bearings and to help everything stay as parallel as possible during the process. A lock nut is provided so you can keep the appropriate end from not turning.
Please use hand tools and not impacts and grease the rod well. A little soap on the bushings can help a little, though not necessary, and grease for solid aluminum bushings is needed to ease install
