OEM oil filter housing gasket.
The oil filter housing gasket is one of the most common sources of oil leaks on all M50-M54 and S50-S54 engines. Replacement is not overly difficult but does require removal of the air box, drive belt and alternator. With all those items out of the way it makes servicing other areas much easier. The crank case vent valve, vacuum lines and knock sensors can all be easily accessed when the oil filter housing is off. This is also the time to replace belts, pulleys, vanos oil feed lines, intake boots and air filters as needed. To make this job easier and cleaner, do it on conjunction with an oil change making sure the oil is drained and the filter removed before unbolting the oil filter housing from the engine block.
